Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is supplying a zero liquid discharge FGD waste water treatment system to Korea South-East Power Corporation (KOEN) for its Yeongheung coal fired plant.

The zero liquid discharge system treats flue gas desulphurisation waste water with a combination of advanced membrane systems, such as reverse osmosis (RO), and thermal processes involving evaporators and crystallisers.

Doosan says it developed its ZLD technology in-house, building on its extensive seawater desalination experience.

Its scope in the Yeongheung project, scheduled to be completed in August 2018, includes design, manufacturing and commissioning.

Once completed, the plant will be capable of recycling 1250m3 of FGD wastewater daily.
