Dubai’s rooftop solar project confirmed

18 July 2018

In February, the government of the United Arab Emirates announced ambitious plans to invest $163 bn to generate almost half the country’s power needs from renewable sources by 2050. As part of its contribution to this policy Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is now offering free solar panel installation across 600 newly built villas in the Hatta district of Dubai to all residents that are UAE nationals.

Project management, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning, along with subsequent O&M is being undertaken by Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence and Al Mostajed Technologies. ABB will install 600 UNO-DM-4.0-TL-Plus-SB single phase string inverters, together with its Aurora web platform for monitoring and maintenance.

The Hatta project falls under the Shams Dubai initiative, which is installing solar panels on buildings throughout the state to generate electricity that can be fed into the grid.
