Gensets supply base load power at Twickenham

25 March 1998

Four generating sets from Cummins Power Generation are playing a key role during matches at the world famous Twickenham rugby ground in London, UK.

Two of the sets, each rated at 500 kVA, are permanently installed and are run continuously during every match, supplying base load power for the floodlighting at the ground. During a recent international match between England and South Africa, a third genset, rated at 250 kVA, was installed to supply power to the hospitality marquee, and a 379 kVA set was installed as emergency standby for the other units.

The two smaller units were rented from Power Services by Black & Edgington, the company responsible for supplying the marquee.

Installed near the ground's south stand in acoustic containers, the units operate at noise levels of below 63 dBA at 7 m.
