Honda drives into US mCHP market

1 June 2007

American Honda Motor and Climate Energy have started retail sales of their jointly developed microCHP system for homes.

The so-called freewatt system is comprised of an internal combustion cogeneration unit developed by Honda paired with a unit produced by Climate Energy containing a heat exchanger and ‘peaking’ furnace. The microCHP system is rated at 3.26 kWt and 1.2 kWe.

Initial sales of the units will be targeted at customers living in the north eastern United States due to the cold climate and high heating demand in that region.
