Lloyds approve Alstom

28 February 2005

Alstom has moved nearer to completion of its stated aim of achieving multi-site O & M certification covering all power stations under its responsibility.

It’s Power Service division has been awarded a multi-site ISO 9001, 14001 as well as OHSAS 18001 certification covering its O&M activities at 14 power stations in eight countries. The auditing body, Lloyds Register Quality Assurance, found all O&M activities to be in full compliance with standards at the O&M Service Execution Centre in Switzerland, and the power stations in Brazil, Chile, England, Indonesia, Italy, Philippines, Malaysia and Spain. ISO 9001 (quality), 14001 (environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (health and safety) certifications provide independent measures of the quality of power station management processes.

This success was based on the application of a comprehensive management system known as POMS (power station management system), jointly developed at several Alstom O&M plants in various countries led by the company’s O&M Centre in Switzerland. POMS covers management, health, safety, environmental, operation and maintenance processes. To adapt to local circumstances, power station engineerss added local work instructions to the standard management system.

POMS has been developed to reduce the mobilisation time for new projects and secure the quality of services during the commercial operation phase. The system also assures the environmental, health and safety commitment. The certified power stations cover the GT8C, GT13E2, GT11N as well as GT24/GT26 gas turbine technologies.
