Low NOx upgrade for Aberthaw

14 May 2016

One of the three boilers at RWE’s Aberthaw coal fired power plant in UK has been modified to lower NOx emissions, with changes to the combustion system including burners, combustion air ports and milling plant operation.

Back in December RWE had confirmation that Aberthaw was among the plants that had been successful in the UK's second capacity market auction. This requires Aberthaw to be available to generate until at least September 2020.

It has since been confirmed that Aberthaw will operate within the UK's Transitional National Plan, an option under the Industrial Emissions Directive, which came into effect at the beginning of 2016. Aberthaw had previously opted for compliance with the Limited Life Derogation (LLD) option.
