ABB has won a design, manufacture, erect and test turnkey contract worth $US12 million to build the Van Eck-Kuiseb-Walmund 220kV Transmission line for NamPower in Namibia. It will run from Van Eck Power Station in Windhoek to the new Walmund Substation near Walvis Bay. ABB will commission approximately 294km of 220kV transmission line on a turnkey basis for the project. Nearly 900 steel towers and line hardware equipment will be manufactured at ABB's factory in Nigel to be erected at the site. The conductor, insulators and earth-wire will be provided by third party companies. The project is scheduled for completion in March 2003.
