Recent power industry contracts/Namibia

NamPower has awarded a $US12 million contract to ABB to build a transmission line to run from Van Eck power station in Windhoek to the new Walmund substation near Walvis Bay. The order involves the design,manufacture, complete erection and testing of the transmission line. ABB will commission approximately 294 km of 220 kV transmission line on a turnkey basis for the project, which is officially known as "Van Eck-Kuiseb-Walmund 220 kV Transmission line." Nearly 900 steel towers and line hardware equipment will be manufactured at ABB's factory in Nigel to be erected at the site. The conductor, insulators and earth-wire will be provided by third party manufacturers.

This project is aimed at providing long-term power to the Walvis Bay/Swakopmund region and is scheduled for completion in March 2003.
