Recent power industry contracts/UAE

GE Power Systems is supplying gas turbines to the Federal Electricity and Water Authority of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the expansion of two power plants in Nakheel and Qidfa. Under a contract worth $61 million, the company is supplying one MS9001E gas turbine generator for each site. The units, rated at 124 MW, will operate on natural gas as the primary fuel with light distillate as the secondary. Power from the units will be supplied to the UAE grid. The gas turbines have already been manufactured at the GE facility in Belfort, France. The Qidfa unit was shipped during the first quarter of the year, with commercial operation due in February 2003. The Nakheel unit is scheduled to be shipped in the second quarter, with operation commencing by April 2003.
