Recent power plant contract awards

Argentina

• ABB Alstom Power won a 135 million euro contract to supply a GE Frame 9E gas turbine to Pluspetrol Energy for a combined cycle add-on at San Miguel de Tucuman, 1300 km northwest of Buenos Aires.

Australia

• ABB Alstom Power won a contract to supply a steam turbine for a pulp and paper mill in Turmut, New South Wales. The plant is due to begin operations in 2001.

Brazil

• Rolls-Royce will supply 230 MWe to Eletropaulo of São Paulo from 2003 for 20 years. The electricity will be produced from Rolls-Royce’s gas-fired Capuava plant. Rolls-Royce will invest $800 million installing two turbines.

Croatia

• Enron has won a $175 million contract to build a 240 MWe gas-fired plant at Jertovec, north of Zagreb.

Cyprus

• The European Investment Bank is providing 100 million euro to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus to extend Vassilikos power plant. Two units of the 120 MWe plant are currently being built.

Denmark

NEG Micon won a DKK 250 million contract from Jysk Vindkraft for 69 wind turbines for installation in 2000.

Hungary

• Pecsi Eromu is investing $60 million in a 190 MWe gas-fired power plant.

India

• Siemens won a $41 million contract for Baspa II and Khopoli hydroplants to supply three 100 MWe generators for Baspa II, and three 24 MWe generators for Khopoli.

• Rolls-Royce won a $18.6 million contract for a 25 MWe oil-based power plant for STI India Vidyut at Rau. The first phase will be completed by the end of 2000, the second by the first half of 2001.

• ABB Germany and National Thermal Power Company are EPC and O&M contractors for Ispat Energy to build a 367 MWe combined cycle power plant at Dolvi in Maharashtra. The project is expected to cost $340 million.

• CMS Generation has $220 million closed financing for the 250 MWe coal-fired Neyveli project. Commercial operation is due in 2002.

Italy

• ABB Alstom Power won a 2.5 million euro contract to supply a 7.7 MWe Tempest gas turbine for a combined cycle plant at Rivoli, near Turin. The plant will enter operation in April 2000.

Kosovo

• Perkins Engines provided six gensets for emergency power for Kosovo. Six 800 kVA sets were delivered to the US Army for reconstruction.

Malaysia

• GE Nuovo Pignone won a $100 million contract to provide four gas turbines to Malaysia LNG Tiga Sdn Bhd.

Poland

• ABB Alstom Power and Foster Wheeler won a 670 million euro contract from Elektrownia Turow to repower three 200 MWe coal-fired units to 260 MWe, to enter service in 2005.

Puerto Rico

• ABB Alstom Power won a $100 million contract for two 250 MWe circulating fluid bed boilers to a cogeneration facility in Guayama.

Romania

• A consortium of Fortum, Alstom Energie, and Itochu won a 65 million euro contract to modernise a unit at Deva power plant, providing combustion technology to decrease NOx emission levels to EU standards. The refurbishment will be completed within two years.

Turkey

• Raytheon won a contract for the 208 MWe Hakkari hydroplant, costing $600 million. Other consortium members are ABB Alstom, and Turkish companies DOLSAR and KiSKA.

• Turkish and US officials signed agreements to build two gas-fired plants worth a total of $360 million, and two hydropower plants worth a total of $490 million. The gas-fired plants will be built in Eskisehir and Alapli, and the hydropower plants will be in Kargi and Gursogut.

• GE Power Systems won a $194 million contract for a 206 MWe power plant in Alapli. The gas-fired plant will begin operation by the end of 2002.

UK

• ABB Alstom Power won a £9 million contract to install a 25 MWe duel-fuelled GT10 gas turbine at the 760 MWe Keadby combined cycle plant.

• British Sugar will build a 70 MW CHP plant at the its factory at Cantley in Norfolk.

• GE won a contract for a 44 MWe LM6000 gas turbine for a CHP plant to be built in Castleford. PowerGen CHP is developing the plant, due to start by May 2001.

• National Power Cogen will supply Aylesford Newsprint Ltd with 40 MW of CHP. It will build a £15 million third phase extension to its existing CHP plant, giving the plant a total capacity of 300 MW.

• Lurgi won a $50 million contract to refurbish a 9 MWe municipal waste plant in Huddersfield to burn 136 000 t/a of household waste. It will be available from 2002.

• National Power will build a £1 million hydroplant in at Glen Tarbet, Scotland. Work on the 850 kWe plant will start soon, and is due to be operational by autumn 2000.

• ABB Alstom Power won an order for a 17 MWe GT35 gas turbine from Total Oil Marine, to be installed on Alwyn North platform in the North Sea.

• PowerGen won a £110 million contract to build, own and operate a 245 MWe CHP in Runcorn. Construction will start in spring 2000, with completion due by autumn 2002. The plant will use a gas turbine from Siemens.

USA

• Raytheon won a $1.1 billion contract from Sithe New England Power Partners for 2 power plants in Massachusetts. The projects are the 1600 MWe gas-fired Mystic station in Everett, and the 800 MWe gas-fired Fore River station in Weymouth. Both plants will enter operation in early 2002.

• GE Power Systems won a contract from Sithe Energies for nine 7FB gas turbines for three 800 MWe merchant power plants. One plant will be in New York, the others in Pennsylvania. Service is due to start in 2003.

• National Power won a $10 million order to build a wind farm for GreenMountain.com in Pennsylvania, for eight wind turbines producing a total of 10 MWe. The wind farm will begin operation in May 2000.

• S&S Energy Products won a contract to provide two GE LM6000 SPRINT gas turbines to OGE Energy. The units will be operational by summer 2000 at the Horseshoe Lake facility in Harrah, Oklahoma.

• GE is supplying equipment for Whiting Clean Energy Project, a $250 million 525 MW cogeneration unit at a BP-Amoco refinery in Whiting, Indiana.

• GE Industrial AeroDerivative Gas Turbines supplied Energy Services Inc (ESI) with two LM6000 PC gas turbines to replace GE LM5000 gas turbines at two power plants. ESI installed a 44 MWe LM6000 PC at a cogeneration facility owned by United American Energy at the Golden Bear refinery in Bakersfield, California. For the second project, ESI will install a GE LM6000 SPRINT at Calpine Corporation's Greenleaf No 1 combined cycle plant.

• Rolls-Royce won contracts for seven gas turbines worth $28 million. Two RB211s are for Wolverine Power Supply’s Hersey power plant, Michigan. Five Allison 501-KB7s will go to a cogeneration plant in Ohio.
