Rolls-Royce to modernise CPR1000 rod controls...

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract to modernise rod control systems in 14 of CGN’s CPR1000 nuclear power units in China.


It’s the first contract of its kind for Rolls-Royce in China and was signed with CGN subsidiary, Suzhou Nuclear Power Research Institute (SNPI).

Rolls-Royce has also signed a new agreement with Hongyanhe and renewed contracts for long-term instrumentation & control services with Daya Bay and Ningde power plants.

Rolls-Royce has been supplying instrumentation & control systems to Chinese nuclear facilities since the 1990s, when the Qinshan and Daya Bay nuclear power plants went into service, and has supplied safety-critical I&C systems to more than 70% of nuclear reactors in operation or under constructionin China, as well as emergency diesel generators to almost 40% of Chinese units. 

 

...and provide big data analytics to PSEG

Big data analytics is also an area that Rolls- Royce describes as a core competency. It has recently signed a four-year contract to provide US nuclear utility, PSEG, with its digital analytics service to help drive greater plant efficiency.

The four-year contract will see the deployment of Rolls-Royce’s T-104 service to achieve improved efficiency and better optimised maintenance at the Salem and Hope Creek nuclear power plants. 

It follows a successful six-month pilot scheme that showed 40% of planned maintenance activities that were included in the trial did not need to be conducted as regularly as currently scheduled.

The T-104 service uses worldwide nuclear power plant operating data to provide best-in-class asset management services. This enables the operator to “focus on the right equipment, at the right time, with the necessary parts at hand.”

It builds on experience in the aerospace business, where the enormous data volumes continuously generated by aircraft engines are monitored and mined to achieve reductions in operating costs while improving reliability.

Rolls-Royce says it is “now applying the same know-how, coupled with...worldwide nuclear operating data and expertise, to deliver high value solutions for the nuclear power generation industry.”
