Rosatom sees big future for small hydro

15 May 2018

Ganz, a Hungarian company that is part of Rosatom (Russian state nuclear energy corporation), and its South African partner, Blue World Power Energy and Resources, have signed a contract for the supply of equipment for a small scale (less than 1 MW) hydro power plant at Mpompomo Falls, Mpumalanga.

Rosatom sees this as the first of many envisaged mini hydro projects in the Sub-Sharan African region. It also believes that its containerised mini hydroelectric plant concept, with an installed capacity of up to 2 MW, might be a promising option for future projects.
