STEAG includes batteries

Nidec ASI (formed in 2012 when Nidec of Japan acquired Ansaldo Sistemi Industriali) recently signed a contract with German utility STEAG for the supply of a 90 MW of energy storage capacity using LG Chem batteries, designed to help in maintaining the stability of the German grid.

Nidec ASI's German subsidiary will take on the role of main contractor (EPC), responsible for the installation and commissioning of the plants.

The storage capacity will consist of six 15 MW systems, each containing five units of 3 MW, with power converters, transformers, batteries and the control systems mounted inside containers for ease of transportation and installation in a "plug and play" configuration.
