Tandem power to upgrade complex

The French urban heating supplier Societe Mâconnaise d'Assainissement de Distribution d'Eau et de Chaleur (SMADEC) has said that it is using six natural gas Caterpillar tandem gensets to provide heating and hot water to homes throughout the Mâcon region.

Six natural gas fuelled 3516 engines working in tandem is being used. The plant generates 6 MWe which are sold to EdF.

There are 12 urban heating plants in the Bourgogne region, the largest of which is the Charmilles complex.

Cogeneration accounts for just two per cent of electricity produced in France, compared to nine per cent in Northern Europe as a whole.
