Tier 2, Stage II versions of QSX15 based units

New emissions compliant versions of Cummins diesel gensets powered by QSX15 series engines and intended for stationary standby, prime power and continuous duty applications are claimed by their makers to outperform other machines in their class. And they have done it, they say, without sacrificing any power output.

The QSX15 platform comes in two models each for the 50 Hz (500 kVA and 550 kVA) and 60 Hz (450 kW and 500 kW) zones. It meets emission standards the European Union Stage II for 50 Hz and US EPA Tier 2 for 60 Hz.

Don Puar, the director of CPG Asia Pacific, said ‘Cummins Power Generation is the first generator manufacturer to introduce to the market diesel engines that comply to EU Stage IIIA and Stage II, and EPA Tier 2 and Tier 3 requirements. We continuously aim to stay ahead of regulatory deadlines and produce cleaner, quieter and more efficient diesel–powered generators.’

The QSX15 platform comes with a 50°C ambient cooling package designed for all operating ambient conditions. The fuel tank has a capacity of 900 litres, allowing the unit to operate for more than eight hours without top–up. The engines’ power–to–weight ratios are high – 500 kWm and 563 kWm for the 50 Hz and 60 Hz versions respectively – mainly owing to their low weight of 1370 kg. And at 15 litres of displacement, it is also smaller in physical size and is therfore space efficient. Its noise level has been reduced to 79 dBA at 1 metre at 75% load for the enclosed model.

It also includes the most recent generation (2.2, replacing PCC2100) of Cummins’ PowerCommand genset control system. The integrated microprocessor–based genset control system features remote start/stop, precise frequency and voltage regulation, alarm and status message display, AmpSentry protection, output metering and auto–shutdown. The new PowerCommand 3.3 control can be added as an option – it is a paralleling control system, with the ability to operate a few gensets at the same time and manage a higher load consumption when necessary.
