Bayswater Peaking Facility has awarded the contract for a gas-fired power generation plant in Queens, New York City, to Foster Wheeler USA Corp. The $28 million engineering, procurement and construction contract is for a 54 MW natural-gas-fired station incorporating two simple cycle gas turbines connected to a single generator. Called the Bayswater Clean Energy Center, it will operate during periods of peak demand. The plant is designed to start quickly from a remote start-up signal, as electricity demand in the city requires. In addition to building the facility, Foster Wheeler will be responsible for commissioning and testing. Work has begun, with start-up expected in June. Bayswater Peaking Facility is owned by FPL Energy and is their first plant in New York.
