The Independent power producer Calpine Corp intends to purchase 19 steam turbine generators from Toshiba International Corp as part of its aim to develop 70 000 MW of generating capacity by 2005. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The first turbines will be delivered by December 2002, with a further 15 in 2003 and the remainder before the end of 2005. The units will provide an aggregate generating capacity of 3800 MW. Calpine already has 41 000 MW in operation or under construction.
