To help support and accelerate the energy transition, and drive deep decarbonisation, DNV GL has decided to combine its oil and gas with its power & renewables businesses. As the leading resource of independent energy experts and certification it plans to serve the entire energy value chain under the name ‘Energy Systems’.

DNV believes that the power, renewables and oil and gas industries all have a crucial role in the energy transition, not only as separate sectors, but also in developing integrated solutions in areas such as energy storage. While the renewable energy market will grow rapidly, natural gas is set to become the single largest energy source by the middle of this decade. Low-carbon fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia, and technologies such as carbon capture and storage, will be important tools to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors such as transport, aviation and shipping.

Energy Systems started operating on 1 February. In addition to joining forces to offer a broader set of services, DNV GL will change its name to DNV on 1 March this year.
