Hungarian renewable energy developer EnerSynk Group has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) covering a planned 500 MW solar project in Zambia, moving the development into a new stage of project execution.
The agreement provides the contractual framework for the sale of electricity generated by the proposed solar facility. EnerSynk said the PPA follows several months of negotiations and project preparation, although it has not disclosed details of the tariff, contract duration, project location or expected construction schedule.
The 500 MW development would represent a substantial addition to Zambia’s solar generation capacity, where new projects are being pursued to diversify electricity supply and reduce reliance on hydropower.
For EnerSynk, the agreement marks a transition from project development towards implementation. The company has not yet provided details on the project’s financing structure, equipment suppliers, grid connection arrangements or targeted commercial operation date.
The PPA will be an important component of any subsequent financing process, providing a contractual route to market for the project’s electricity. Further development work will be required before construction, including financial close, permitting, grid connection and final engineering.
EnerSynk is developing renewable energy projects across international markets, with operations originating in Hungary and an expanding focus on climate and energy infrastructure.
The company described the Zambian agreement as a significant step in its international development strategy. The project will add to Zambia’s pipeline of utility-scale solar developments as the country seeks additional generation capacity and greater diversification of its electricity mix.
The scale of the project also means transmission infrastructure and system integration will be important considerations as development progresses, particularly given the variable output of solar generation.
