A new wind power facility near Iraan, Texas, will generate power to be sold on the wholesale electricity market, a first according to Enron, the company developing the project.
The 135MW station is to be built by Enron Wind, which will sell the power generated to Enron Power Marketing Inc (EPMI) under a long term power purchase agreement. EPMI will then sell the power into the Texas wholesale market, allowing wholesale customers to purchase portions of wind power. According to Enron this will allow a wider range of customers to buy green power.
The wind farm will consist of 90 Enron 1.5 MW wind turbines. It is due to be completed late this year and will generate around 520 GWh per annum.
