The French government has announced plans for the development of a 1 GW offshore wind park off the coast of Normandy.
It has launched a public consultation on the proposals, which could consist of up to 80 turbines of 12 MW each installed in a seabed area with “very favourable” wind conditions, according to the government.
The plan will be open for public comment until May 2020, and forms a key part of the country’s efforts to double its installed renewables capacity to 113 GW by 2028.
“The development of renewable energies, especially at sea, is a major component of the diversification of our electricity mix,” said Ecology minister Elisabeth Borne.
France recently increased its offshore wind target to 1 GW per year. In June, EDF won a tender to build the 600 MW Dunkirk offshore wind project.
