Lummus Technology and Advanced Ionics have broken ground on a pilot plant for Advanced Ionics’ next-generation electrolyzer at Lummus’ R&D facility in Pasadena, Texas. The project advances their 2024 partnership to commercialise low-cost green hydrogen production for industrial decarbonisation.
Lummus will operate the electrolyzer and balance-of-plant systems, while Advanced Ionics supplies its high-efficiency technology designed for lower energy use. The pilot aims to validate real-world performance and accelerate scaling for broader deployment in transport, power and heavy industry.
Lummus CEO Leon de Bruyn said the demonstration leverages the company’s R&D expertise to speed commercialisation of sustainable hydrogen solutions. Advanced Ionics CEO Ignacio Bincaz highlighted the partnership’s role in proving green hydrogen’s economic viability under operational conditions.
The initiative underscores growing momentum in green hydrogen pilots as developers target cost reductions to compete with grey hydrogen amid rising demand for net-zero fuels.
