Reach Solar Energy has put forward plans for the construction of a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in South Australia.
The 300 MW Bungala solar farm would use single axis tracking technology and will be located 7 km north-east of Port Augusta, Reach said. The firm submitted plans for the project in September and is now inviting comments on its proposals from the public.
The A$660 million project could include energy storage in the future, Reach said. It will be able to make use of existing transmission infrastructure in the region, which is currently “underused” because of the closure of the 760 MW coal-fired Flinders and Playford power stations, according to Reach.
The project will be developed in stages, with the first phase totalling 100 MW.
The state of South Australia has set a target of 50 per cent renewable energy by 2025.
