Bangladesh addresses power shortages

14 February 2018

Hubei Electric Power Survey & Design Institute has placed an order with Wärtsilä for the supply of a 100 MW power plant in Bangladesh.

The fast-track delivery will comprise six Wärtsilä 50 engines running on heavy fuel oil (HFO). The engines are scheduled for delivery by July of this year, and the plant is expected to be fully operational before the end of 2018.

The new plant will supply baseload energy to the Gazipur Industrial Zone and will help to accelerate economic growth in the region, China-based Hubei Electric said.

The order brings Wärtsilä’s total installed base in Bangladesh to 4000 MW.
