CFB order for Tees Renewable

26 September 2016

The Tees Renewable energy plant will be equipped with the world’s largest circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler using only biomass as a fuel.

Tecnicas Reunidas SA and Samsung C&T EC UK have awarded Amec Foster-Wheeler a contract to design and supply a 299 MW boiler for the plant, which will be located in northeast England.

MGT Teesside Ltd., the plant’s owner, has also awarded Amec FW a long term service agreement contract for boiler maintenance, it said.

Amec Foster-Wheeler will design and supply the 299 MWe (gross) unit of the baseload CFB power plant and also supply auxiliary equipment and onsite technical advisory services for construction and supervisory services for commissioning.

Once it reaches its full 299-MW capacity in 2020, the boiler will be the world's largest CFB boiler utilising only biomass as fuel.

Earlier in September Finland’s export credit agency, Finnvera, announced that it would support funding of the Tees plant, construction of which is due to start within months.
