Commercial operation begins at Hitachinaka ultra-supercritical plant

12 January 2021

The 650 MW ultra-supercitical Hitachinaka 650MW Joint Thermal Power Station Unit 1 began commercial operation on 8 January. The plant has been developed by JERA Co through its subsidiary Hitachinaka Generation Co., Inc. and is located at JERA’s Hitachinaka thermal power station in Ibaraki prefecture.

This high-efficiency coal-fired power station has been developed, says JERA, to include state-of-the-art environmental equipment to mitigate its environmental impact.

JERA intends to continue to employ high-efficiency coal-fired power stations and develop decarbonisation technologies as part of its efforts to maintain a stable supply of electricity and reduce CO2 emissions.
