Consent for 1700 MW gas plant

11 April 2019

Plans for a large-scale combined cycle gas fired power plant in northern England have been given the go-ahead.

The 1700 MW Tees CCPP generating station will use existing gas and National Grid connections on the site of the former Teesside power station near Middlesbrough. It is the second major power project to be approved this year in the UK following the development the consent order granted for Millbrook Power, a gas fired power station proposed in Bedfordshire.

Industrial energy supplier Sembcorp Utilities UK first revealed plans for the Tees project in 2017. The company said that the project represents an important step forward in the future development of the site and would play a significant part in the battle to secure the UK’s energy future.
