E.ON introduces digital prosumer innovation

9 March 2017

E.ON has announced plans to introduce a “solar cloud” service that will allow customers to store any power they produce in unlimited amounts.

The service will be launched in April and will enable customers to become more independent from traditional energy supply structures.

The service is part of a wider suite of digital products to be launched by E.ON this year under a conept the company has called “Your Energy”.

E.ON’s SolarCloud will enable customers with solar panels to store an unlimited amount of the energy they produce on a virtual electricity account and then draw on it any time they like. E.ON will initially launch SolarCloud on the German market as an innovative enlargement of the E.ON Aura solar power storage solution.

E.ON has plans in place to expand the nature and flexibility of the offering – for example by allowing customers to charge electric vehicles away from home or enabling the sale of surplus solar energy to neighbours or friends.

“We’re tearing down former barriers in the power system and enable our customers to design a free, personal and efficient supply of energy,” said E.ON board member Karsten Wildberger. “The new products strengthen our position as a leading company in a dynamic energy market. It also marks another step in E.ON’s transition from a traditional energy supplier to an innovative, customer focusing company, fully committed to a sustainable, digitised and decentralised energy environment.”
