The Kayamkulam combined cycle power plant was besieged by hundreds of fishermen on 29 October. The fishermen were protesting about ecological problems they claim have been caused by the plant.
According to the fishermen, the heat emitted by the plant and the dredging involved in the plant's construction have damaged the waters, and affected the fishing potential.
