Franco-Belgian transmission line opens

15 December 2005

The transmission line is the first of three planned that will allow a significant increase in exports from France of about 50% and ease transmission bottlenecks.

The new 1000 MW line between Avelin in France and Avelgem in Belgium cost €165.7 million euros and boosts capacity between the two countries to 3,200 MW.

Reinforcing the link between Chooz in France and Jamiolle in Belgium, is due to begin next year and complete by April 2006 while expansion between Moulaine and Aubange is expected to complete by 2011 or 2012. The two expansions will bring the capacity to 4,000 MW.
