25 June 2018

Solar power developer Lightsource has completed the construction of its first project in India.

The company, which recently partnered with oil giant BP, said in a statement that the commissioning of the 60 MW solar farm in Wagdari, Maharashtra, marks a “significant milestone” for the company.

The project is also one of the first to be completed from a round of tenders held by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). It was financed in partnership with UK Climate Investments (UKCI), a joint venture between the Green Investment Group and the UK government.

Lightsource BP won the offtake contract through a competitive 450 MW tender process held by the government of India, managed by SECI. The project comprises 200 000 LONGi Solar photovoltaic panels ground-mounted across 97 hectares.
