MHPS to equip Sharjah CCGT

4 April 2019

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems has received a turnkey contract to build a 1026 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in the United Arab Emirates.

MHPS will supply two M701F gas turbines to the Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority (SEWA), which is developing the new plant in the coastal city of Layyah. It will also provide one steam turbine, three generators and two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG).

The project will be the first in Sharjah to be financed as export loan with support from a Japan’s export credit agency (ECA). MHPS will fulfil the contract in partnership with Elsewedy Electric, it said in a statement.

Elsewedy will provide engineering, procure balance of the plant and other equipment and undertake construction at the site.

The project is part of SEWA’s plans to boost power generation in the emirate of Sharjah to meet rising energy demand.
