New turbines for Bjolvo

The Norwegian utility Statkraft has contracted Siemens Voith to supply two high head Pelton turbines for the Bjolvo power station. The plant, located in, Hordaland, western Norway, close to Bergen is due to start operating in 2003.

One turbine will have a generating capacity of 90MW and the second 10MW. Both will operate under a head of 860m. The plant is expected to generate 387 GWh, annually. Norway produces 99 per cent of its electricity from hydropower.
