A regional environmental permit has been awarded to Polenergia for the second phase of a proposed 1.2 GW offshore wind farm.
The Regional Directorate of Environmental Protection in Gdansk, Poland, has granted the permit for the 600 MW Baltic Sea 2 project, which is expected to be developed between 2023 and 2026.
The first 600 MW phase of the wind farm – the first offshore wind power project in Poland – was granted an environmental permit in 2016. Construction of this phase is due to start in 2019, and it will start operating by 2022, according to Polenergia.
Both projects require a construction permit.
Polenergia added that it is planning to use 8-10 MW wind turbines for both wind farms. The project could be further developed with more stages to expand the total output to 2.4 GW.
