Dutch based engineering consultancy Pondera and Korean engineering company Hanmi Global have signed a contract with Jeju Hanlim Offshore Wind Co. to act as owner’s engineer on the 100 MW Jeju Hanlim offshore wind farm off the coast of South Korea.
The 100 MW Jeju Hanlim offshore project is the third offshore wind project in Korean waters and the second commercial-scale project. It is a key part on Korea’s plans to kick-start its offshore wind energy sector and add 13 GW of capacity by 2030.
Both Hanmi Global and Pondera said that the contract was a major step forward for their businesses. “It is a major breakthrough for us after being present in Korea for some years now and we hope to be able to assist our Korean colleagues with our Western owners engineering experience,” said Pondera’s CEO Hans Rijntalder.
Hanmi Global’s CEO Jong Hoon Kim said: “Also for us this is an important step. We have a lot of experience with project realisation and construction management, but our knowledge of offshore wind projects is still limited. Therefore, we are happy to join forces with Pondera.”
Jeju Hanlim is located near the Tamra offshore project just of the coast of Jeju Island, south-west of the mainland. The project developer consortium is led by Korea Electric Power Corporation Engineering and Construction (E&C).
