Siemens buys HRSG maker

12 December 2007

Siemens Power Generation has added another technology to its wide product portfolio through the acquisition of the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) business of Balcke Dürr Austria GmbH.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, completes Siemens’ combined cycle power plant portfolio and will help the company meet growing demand for high efficiency gas fired plants around the world.

Vienna-based Balcke-Dürr Austria’s abilities range from engineering to supply and installation of HRSGs. The company has a workforce of 55 and posted revenues of Euros 21 million in fiscal 2006.

“In many countries we are experiencing a genuine boom in high-efficiency fossil-fueled power plants,” said Klaus Voges, president of Siemens Power Generation. “With this aquisition we are securing important know-how in the field of heat-recovery steam generators for combined cycle plants. To boost these activities the number of employees is to be increased.”
