Toshiba wins Tanjung Jati B expansion deal

23 April 2017

Toshiba has been awarded a major equipment supply contract for the Tanjung Jati B units 5 & 6 expansion project in Indonesia.

The firm says it has won an order to supply two 1000 MW ultra-supercritical steam turbine-generators, main transformers and a 500 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) for the plant, which is due to enter commercial operation in 2021.

The expansion project is being developed by Sumitomo Corp, together with Kansai Electric Power Co. and PT United Tractor Tbk in central Java. It will supply electricity over a 25-year period to Indonesian power utility PT PLN.

Toshiba will start delivery of main equipment to the project site from 2019.

“The Indonesian government proposes to build an additional 35 GW of power supply, and this Tanjung Jati B project is positioned as one of the main expansion projects and power sources.” Said Takao Konishi, Vice President of Toshiba’s Energy Systems & Solutions Company. “Tanjung Jati B will contribute to ease the increasing pressure for electricity demand.”

Construction of the 2000 MW project started at the end of March following closure of project finance, which has been provided by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) as well as a number of international banks.
