Thai construction firm TTCL plc has announced plans to build a 1280 MW coal-fired power plant in Myanmar.
TTCL, a subsidiary of Toyo Engineering, is awaiting the formal approval of a joint venture agreement that would give it a 95 per cent stake in the project, located in Hpa-an, Kayin state.
The supercritical plant will start operating in 2023-2024, according to TTCL, and will cost $2.8 billion to build. It will operate using imported coal.
The Kayin state government will hold a five per cent stake in the project.
