Wärtsilä wins Oman contract

10 December 2014

Musandam Power Company has placed an order with Wärtsilä for the supply of a 120 MW power plant, the Finnish engine firm has reported.

Under the contract, Wärtsilä will deliver the 'smart' power plant on a turnkey basis with commercial operation scheduled for late 2016. The plant will provide energy to the Governorate of Musandam in Oman.

Wärtsilä's contract includes a long-term service agreement and a 15-year maintenance agreement. The power plant will consist of 15 Wärtsilä 34DF engines using natural gas as a main fuel and light fuel oil as a backup.

The plant will meet the dynamic load demand in the rapidly developing Musandam governorate, responding to load variations between 10 MW and 120 MW, says Wärtsilä. It will also operate in high humidity and temperatures of up to 50°C.
