YEKA production line poised to start

A Siemens-Türkerler-Kalyon consortium is preparing to launch operations at a nacelle production facility in Turkey.

The facility was built with an investment of more than $100 million (€90.6 million) and will produce 100 nacelles per year, the Anadolu news agency has reported, citing Siemens Gamesa Turkey CEO Ebru Cicekliyurt.

Its construction forms part of a contract won by Siemens-Gamesa and its Turkish partners, Turkerler Holding and Kalyon Enerji, in 2017, to build 1000 MW of onshore wind capacity in Turkey.

The so-called Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) contract will see the consortium build wind farms of at least 50 MW in five pre-designated regions: Kayseri-Nigde, Sivas, Edirne-Kirklareli-Tekirdag, Ankara-Çankiri-Kirikkale and Bilecik-Kütahya-Eskisehir.

The contract specified a 65 per cent local content requirement, leading the consortium to build the factory in the Izmir Aliaga Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ).
