Kuwait is expected to issue a tender later this year for a $984 million power plant project, according to a report from Reuters. The tender, for the al-Sour plant, is to be issued during the second half of 1998, the government announced.

The $1 billion will cover the power generation side of the project. However there will be a further investment to cover desalination facilities.

Kuwait intends to invite bids from US firms alone, after intense lobbying from the US government. Loans for construction of the project are also expected to come from the USA. The power plant will generate 2400 MW of power and 218 million l of water each day.
