Vattenfall has announced plans for two new onshore wind farms in East Anglia, with a combined potential capacity of up to 429 MW.
The proposed Chatteris Wind Farm, south of Chatteris, could have a capacity of up to 126 MW, while the Redmere Wind Farm near Shippea Hill could generate up to 303 MW.
The developments will be progressed through separate planning applications, although Vattenfall is presenting them together because some communities and local representatives may have an interest in both projects.
The developer is beginning community engagement ahead of the planning process. Residents within 3km of the proposed sites are being invited to drop-in events in October, where they can meet the project team and ask questions about the proposals and ongoing environmental assessment work.
Vattenfall said both projects would target at least a 10% biodiversity net gain over their lifetime. Further details on environmental measures will be developed following completion of environmental studies.
The projects could also support local employment and supply chains, while generating business rates and community benefit funding, according to Vattenfall.
Robin Stewart, project manager at Vattenfall, said the developments could contribute to domestic electricity supply while providing economic and environmental benefits locally.
“At this early stage, we want local communities to have the chance to meet the team, find out more about the survey and assessment work taking place, and ask any questions they have,” Stewart said.
Further consultation is planned for 2027, when Vattenfall expects to provide more detailed project designs and visualisations from local viewpoints.
