Henan Tianchi Pumped Storage Co. and Voith Hydro Shanghai Co. have signed a contract for the purchase of equipment for the Henan Tianchi pumped storage plant site in He Nan province, China. Voith will supply four 300 MW Francis reversible pump turbines and generators, and auxiliary equipment. The power plant will have a total installed capacity 1200 MW. The rated head of the plant is 510 metres, and the rated speed of the unit is 500 rpm.
Henan Tianchi pumped storage plant project is intended for energy storage at valley periods to smooth peak periods, provide frequency and phase regulation, and provide backup for incidents and black start needs for the power system of the Henan Province. According to the contract schedule, the contracted equipment will be completed by December 2020, the first unit will be put into operation by the end of September 2021, and the last one will commence commercial operation in June 2022.
Henan Tianchi Pumped Storage Co. is a subsidiary of State Grid Xin Yuan Company and the plant is located in Mashiping, He Nan Province, in the upper reaches of the Huangya River.
