Wärtsilä has signed a major contract to supply power generation capacity for an un-named Europe-based customer with international operations. The value of the equipment delivery contract is approximately €120 million. The order includes Wärtsilä 50 platform gensets and auxiliary equipment.
The Wärtsilä 50 engine platform is able to operate on dual fuel, gas and liquid fuel versions. The first model, the 50DF, was launched in early 2000 as a sual fuel version and was followed by engines and power plants designed to be fired by specific gaseous and liquid fuels. Approximately 700 Wärtsilä 50 engines have been sold to the marine sector and 300 for energy sector applications.
This latest order comes under the marketing banner ‘Wärtsilä Smart Power Generation’ which is said to provide the operational flexibility and capacity agility to complement traditional forms of power generation, thereby helping to improve the performance of entire power grids.
