New wind farm proposed for Scotland

25 February 2016

Developers have outlined to the Scottish government plans for the construction of a 151 MW wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway.

Buccleuch, a land management firm, and 2020 Renewables, have joined forces to create the North Lowther Energy Initiative to develop a 42-turbine wind farm in the Lowther Hills.

The two companies say that preliminary discussions have already taken place with the local community, councils, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Scottish Government and that it will consider "a range of options" before deciding to proceed with the project.

The scoping report details the layout of the 42 wind turbines and is the latest stage in the firms' consultation process. The project's economic, environmental and community benefits could "transform the area", they said in a statement.
