No phase-out before 2010 for Sweden

13 October 2006

Elected in mid-September, recent comments attributed to new Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt suggest that no political decision will be taken on phasing out nuclear power during the 2006-10 term.

However, while the phase out is effectively suspended, operating licences for the two shutdown Barsebäck units will not be issued nor will any new reactor construction project be approved, although the government is believed to be ready to consider requests to increase capacity at existing operating facilities.
