SCE calls for renewables

23 January 2007

The largest wind energy contract ever signed by a US utility, the deal more than doubles SCE’s wind energy portfolio.

The Alta Wind Energy Center project, a joint venture between Oak Creek Energy and Allco Finance Group, will be developed over several years to match availability of power transmission resulting from the 4,500 MW Tehachapi Transmission Project, scheduled to go before the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) Board for approval in early 2007.

SCE also signed a new contract with Chateau Energy to purchase 15 MW of power from a biomass facility in the Mesquite Lake area of Imperial County.
