The project was completed in less than 30 months and delivered six months ahead of schedule, ABB said.
The $900 million line runs from the Huaxin HVDC receiver station on the outskirts of Shanghai, China’s largest city to the Three Gorges hydropower plant in central China.
Built on behalf of State Grid Corp, the line is the country’s longest HVDC transmission link to date. In June 2004 ABB installed a 940 km, 3,000 MW Three Gorges to Guangdong power link.
On completion in 2009, the Three Gorges will be the world’s largest hydropower plant generating 18,200 MW.
