UK planning reform for offshore wind

The DTI has decided that Britain's monopoly electricity transmission network owners will have to compete to build, own and maintain links to offshore generation facilities with the aim of delivering more timely connections from offshore wind farms to the national grid.

David Gray, Ofgem’s managing director for networks, said: “Ofgem welcomes and fully supports the competitive approach being introduced offshore.”
