The final electrolyser array for the 100 MW Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH) has arrived at the construction site, marking another step towards commissioning the renewable hydrogen facility.

The project is being developed by Luxcara, in partnership with Hamburger Energiewerke, on part of the former Moorburg power plant site. Existing energy infrastructure at the site is being repurposed for hydrogen production, helping transform the former coal-fired power station into a new energy hub.

The arrival completes delivery of the electrolyser arrays needed for the plant and shifts the project further into the construction and installation phase. The equipment will form the core of the facility, converting renewable electricity into hydrogen through electrolysis.

HGHH is intended to demonstrate how existing industrial sites can be repurposed as energy systems move away from fossil fuel generation. The Moorburg location provides access to established grid and industrial infrastructure, potentially reducing the need to develop an entirely new site for hydrogen production.

The 100 MW plant is expected to become a significant source of renewable hydrogen for Hamburg and the surrounding industrial region. Its development is also part of Hamburg’s wider effort to establish hydrogen production and infrastructure as the city works to decarbonise industry and transport.

With the final electrolyser equipment now on site, attention will turn to installation, system integration and commissioning as the project moves towards operation.
